Stray was unveiled at the Playstation 5 presentation event, which featured a number of upcoming games for Sony's console, but it has been in the shadows since then. Although it wasn't one of the biggest announcements, it did catch the public's attention, mainly because of its protagonist, a cute little cat. This intrigued a number of players but also led to others mocking the game as a cat simulator. We had very little information about Stray other than the fact that we will be playing as a cat, in a city populated by robots, and that the game was due for release in 2021.
The publisher of the game, Annapurna Interactive, which has made a name for itself by publishing games like Journey, Outer Wilds, or more recently Maquette, organized a showcase yesterday to unveil its line up for the coming months, including new announcements and information on games already revealed, like the one we are interested in today, Stray.
We were able to watch Stray gameplay for the first time. The game is presented as an action-adventure game where you control a cat in an abandoned city populated only by humanoid robots. Apart from the cat's own characteristics, including the notably superior agility that allows it to access places inaccessible to a human, our feline will be accompanied by a drone called B-12 which will allow it to store objects, communicate with the robots, and interact with the environment and its inhabitants in several ways. The city hides dangerous creatures that our feline will have to face, but as we can see in the video, it will be able to count on the help of B-12.
Finally, we were able to discover the new release window for Stray, which will not launch in 2021 but in early 2022 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam.
