Overwatch 2 will bring many changes to PvP

The announcement of Overwatch 2 left us with more questions than answers. Blizzard has given us a few hints about the novelties that their new competitive first-person shooter game will feature, including new looks, heroes, maps, co-op missions, and team vs. team battles, but other than listing them, very few details have been revealed. That is the main reason why yesterday's PvP Livestream was so anticipated. We finally had an opportunity to discover a bit more about the changes that Overwatch 2 will bring to the series, and it turns out that we are in for some big surprises.

We already heard about the new passives that will affect every role in the game, but we can see them in action for the first time. Healers that will regenerate health after staying briefly out of combat, tanks that will be harder to knockback, and Damage heroes moving faster than others are good examples of changes that will affect gameplay. But Overwatch 2 will also bring many changes to specific heroes, including little tweaks to their abilities and complete reworks like in the case of Bastion. Of course, everyone expected that the shift from teams of 6 players to teams of 5 will have quite a significant impact on team composition and strategies once Overwatch 2 is available, but Blizzard also revealed that the roles will be set in stone for all standard PvP modes. Each team will be formed by one Tank, two Damage, and two support heroes. This will force players to create new strategies, making games more challenging too.

The Livestream allowed us to take a look at the new brand new PvP mode Push and detailed its mechanics. Having to take control of a robot to make it advance into your opponents' territory adds a new level of complexity to the matches. Blizzard also revealed that Assault mode won't be available in Overwatch 2 and that they are working on additional game modes that will be shown ahead of the release. We also could see some of the new maps that are coming with the new game, including New York, Rio, Rome, and Monte Carlo.

That is a lot of information for the fans to digest, but the most important piece is missing. There is no confirmed release date for Overwatch 2 yet, but it seems that at least the developers are set on revealing more things about the game, so we may have news on that matter very soon.
