New Captain America and Black Panther game in the works

Disney’s D23 fan expo has introduced several upcoming games, including an as-of-yet unnamed game by Skydance Media, featuring two prominent Marvel superheroes: Captain America and Black Panther. Announced last year, we finally got a first look at the game via the announcement trailer here.

There isn’t much to go on from the trailer apart from its impeccable taste in old-timey music, but a presentation from developers Amy Hennig and Marc Bernardin gave us a bigger glimpse at the upcoming superhero game. Hennig is notably the writer-director of such hits as Uncharted and Legacy of Kain

Firstly, the game is set during World War II and features four main characters: Steve Rogers as Captain America; Azzuri, T’Challa’s grandfather and the WWII-era Black Panther; Nanali, a fledgling spy for Wakanda, and; Gabriel Jones, an African-American soldier and a member of Cap’s Howling Commandos. Story consultant Marc Bernardin mentioned that the game was inspired by the scene where Captain America and Black Panther led the charge in Avengers: Infinity War’s climactic battle scene.

Secondly, there was no mention of how the gameplay will go, although Hennig did say she wanted to be approachable enough for anyone to play.

“We want everybody to feel like they can experience this. They can put themselves in the shoes of these heroes, the controls are simple, contextual, intuitive, but also deep—for longtime gamers and people who have never touched a game before.”

She stated the game will be serialized, like episodes from a TV show.

Finally, we don’t have a release window, or even a title at this point. We’ll report new developments as they come, but if you’re up for more Captain America and Black Panther, you can pick up a Marvel’s Avengers PS5 key. You can also pre-purchase Marvel’s Midnight Suns, coming out this December.
