Nintendo owns very popular franchises but Mario Bros. and The Legend of Zelda are the most important ones. There are plenty of video games that explore these franchises and their characters even if they do not belong to the original genres. When the Japanese developer picked up iconic characters from Mario Bros. to create a racing game it created one of the most exciting racing experiences. Super Mario Kart was released in 1992 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and it offered an incredibly fun racing experience that you could share with other players. The game was the first installment of a series that would become a fan favourite on all Nintendo consoles from that moment. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the latest installment and it's currently available for Nintendo Switch, offering a revamped battle mode, new characters, and many other novelties. However, the upcoming release of Nintendo Switch 2 will also bring a new racing game, Mario Kart World.
Mario Kart World was presented during the recent Nintendo Switch 2 reveal livestream for the joy of the franchise's fans. The game will offer players a new type of experience set in an open world for the first time ever in the franchise. The game's predecessor offers quite a complete experience that will be hard to surpass, so Nintendo has had to reinvent the wheel to try and surpass Mario Kart 8. Multiplayer online races for up to 24 players in the new Knock-out Tour mode and the possibility of racing through courses in a vast world where everything is connected are some of the highlights of a new title that aims to revolutionize the popular franchise. Abandoning the racing course to explore or take shortcuts will be a first with Mario Kart World which will also include a Free Roam mode focused on driving and exploration.
The footage of Mario Kart World revealed so far hints at an incredible number of characters to choose from that could be as high as 84. No matter what Mario Bros. character is your favourite, it's quite likely to be present in the game's roster.
If you are a fan of Mario Kart games and can't wait to play with your friends to Mario Kart World, you will be glad to know that the game will launch alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5, 2025.
