Larian tackles toxicity about mod support for Baldur's Gate III

A few days ago Larian Studios revealed that is still working to improve Baldur's Gate III. The best game released in recent years keeps accumulating awards but the studio is still focused on improving the gameplay experience. Larian has confirmed that it's working to add official cross-platform mod support to the game and the announcement was received with joy by the community. There is a wide range of mods currently available for Baldur's Gate III and many of them are very popular among the players, especially those who like to enjoy a somewhat different adventure. However, every time the game receives a patch, which is not that uncommon since Larian keeps improving it, many of these mods become outdated. Larian's senior community strategist, WombatMedic, addressed this matter recently:

"We want to continue making sure you're getting the best possible experience, which is why we frequently patch the game, although this does inevitably mean that each new patch or hotfix has the potential to become incompatible with your favourite mods. We know this sucks, we know you want to play with mods, and we want to make this right".

"We want the very best for you, which includes establishing a pipeline that lets mod authors release their mods across different platforms. Together with the platform holders, we are working on making this a reality, and are forming a team to support mod curation."

A timely warning

It seems that some people are not happy with how the mod support process for Baldur's Gate III is going and they have not been shy of voicing it and even cross some lines that should not be crossed. Larian Studios' director of publishing Michael Douse has addressed this serious matter with a warning via a publication on X where he asks to stop all kinds of toxic behaviour and threats against developers and community teams over mod support. This problem has escalated on Larian's discord and the studio has decided to tackle it to keep good communication between all parts.

No matter how strongly some individuals may complain about patches breaking mods for Baldur's Gate III the studio is determined to add mod support on its terms. It requires time to do it properly since the support will cover many elements of the game. Ending with a half-baked implementation of a poorly tested system will also cause huge problems down the line and Larian is not taking that path.
