Intel appoints two new directors, accelerates search for new CEO

On Thursday last week, Intel appointed two seasoned chip industry veterans to its board as the embattled semiconductor company searches for a new CEO after Pat Gelsinger's recent departure and works to restore its former prominence.

Intel has taken significant steps to strengthen its leadership team and shape its future direction, for the company has appointed two highly experienced figures in semiconductor manufacturing: former ASML CEO Eric Meurice and interim Microchip Technology CEO Steve Sanghi. Both are industry veterans with extensive leadership experience at top tech companies. Meurice is renowned for his impressive track record at ASML, where he helped the company’s stock price quintuple during his tenure. Meanwhile, Sanghi, who has previously worked at Intel, brings a wealth of expertise in chip manufacturing.

These appointments come as Intel intensifies its search for a successor to former CEO Gelsinger. According to internal sources, the search process began even before Gelsinger's dismissal, with the board actively interviewing potential candidates.

"Eric and Steve are highly respected leaders in the semiconductor industry," said interim executive chairman Frank Yeary. "Their deep technical expertise, operational rigor, and leadership experience will be valuable additions to Intel's board."

With the addition of the two new directors, Intel hopes to bolster its leadership capabilities, navigate its current challenges, and reclaim its position as a global leader in the semiconductor industry.
