Horror legend John Carpenter praises Horizon Forbidden West

John Carpenter, known for such horror greats as The Thing, Halloween, and The Fog, has made it known long before that he’s a video game enthusiast. Having played Sonic the Hedgehog with his son in the 90s, the 74-year-old director has since praised games like Halo Infinite, calling it a “fun shooter” with "immense beautiful production design," and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, which he called “a return to excellence in the franchise.”

This time, he took to Twitter to express his admiration for Horizon Forbidden West, and in particular, its lead actor, Ashly Burch:

Ashly Burch is apparently becoming a legend of her own in the voice acting world. The 31-year-old Emmy-award-winner is known for being in several AAA titles, having played Cassie Cage in Mortal Kombat X, Viper in Valorant, Kate Bishop in Marvel’s Avengers, Miss Pauling in Team Fortress 2, and Chloe Price in Life is Strange. She will next be heard playing as Tiny Tina in Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, coming out this March.

John Carpenter wasn’t the only one who noticed Burch’s performance, of course. Critics have singled her out for giving life to Aloy in an inimitable way—particularly since Forbidden West is a long game with thousands of voice lines and must have required hundreds of hours of recording, not to mention motion capture.

Of course, we do get a reply from Burch for the glowing praise.

Here’s hoping that we will someday see a movie of Horizon Forbidden West, maybe with both Carpenter and Burch working together.
