Hitman 3 has recently been announced and it seems that it's one of those titles that will get involved in the competition between Epic Games Store and Steam. IO Interactive has revealed that the third installment in the Hitman series is going to be exclusive to Epic Games' platform when it's released on PC. Of course, the announcement has upset those that have played the previous games in the series on Steam and were expecting to own all three games on the same platform. We have seen a similar situation happening quite a few times since these exclusivity deals are one of the methods that Fortnite's creators are using to compete against the previously almost unchallenged monopoly of Steam as a digital distribution platform for video games.
In the end, it's just a matter of money and you can't really blame developers for taking such an option. IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak has explained that the deal has given them the opportunity of creating the game they aimed for:
“Self-publishing Hitman 3 is a big step for IO Interactive in achieving our highly ambitious goals as an independent studio. Furthermore, this partnership with Epic has given us the freedom to create the game exactly as we imagined, for our fans and for our community uncompromised.”
Hitman 3 exclusivity announcement has also been accompanied by another news related to the franchise. Hitman (2016) will be available for free next week in Epic Games Store. You will be able to claim the game from August 27 to September 3 and add it permanently to your library. Also, IO Interactive has published a new video that gives us a preview of one of the new locations that will be available in Hitman 3, Thornbridge Manor.
