God of War: Ragnarok is without a doubt one of the most anticipated game releases this half of the year, so much so that scalpers have been successfully selling the game’s Jotnar edition at double the retail price or more.
Today, Santa Monica Studios released the storyline details for Ragnarok. First, check out the latest trailer here:
God of War: Ragnarok launches on November 9. The story goes as thus (don’t read any further if you prefer to go into the game blind):
“Fimbulwinter is well underway. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesied battle that will end the world.
Along the way they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters. The threat of Ragnarök grows ever closer. Kratos and Atreus must choose between their own safety and the safety of the realms.”
So the game appears to stretch from the events preceding Ragnarok—Fimbulwinter—to the Twilight of the Gods itself. It also means that the father-and-son team of Kratos and Atreus will be visiting all of the Nine Realms, including Asgard.
We were also informed that Atreus will be probing deeper into the prophecy of Loki, who in mythology led the downfall of the gods alongside Fenrir the Wolf and Jormungand the World Serpent. Meanwhile, Kratos is desperate not to repeat his past mistakes and raise his son right, but with Thor and possibly Odin aiming for a showdown with him, this dream seems to be sadly out of reach. Well, the developers did promise that this game will end the Norse saga.
With anticipation reaching fever pitch, here’s hoping we get a deeper look at Ragnarok’s gameplay at a gaming event sometime soon. You can pre-order a God of War: Ragnarok PS5 key from our comparator today. If you haven't done so, you can also play the acclaimed PC port of God of War.
