Fortnite changes matchmaking and adds bots

Even if it wasn't the first Battle Royale game to appear, Fortnite has managed to secure its position as one of the most popular video games. The sheer amount of players that play the game daily has granted Epic Games such a huge amount of notoriety and revenue that it has even created its own store to compete with the almighty Valve, the company that has controlled the digital distribution of videogames pretty much since it launched Steam in 2003. As you can see below, the game has changed a lot since its release, and all the changes that are made to Fortnite have become quite relevant, so they potentially open the door to the same types of changes appearing in other games.

Epic Games has announced that the next Fortnite update will add several changes to the matchmaking system. It has not changed since the game launched and now that the player base has grown so much the system is starting to need an update so it adapts to the level of skill of the players. The upcoming changes will produce fairer matches and you will be more likely to be matched with opponents with a similar level of skill. As you improve your skills, the type of players that you will face will be also more skilled, which will maintain the challenge at a reasonable level.

The second change that Fortnite's Update v10.40 is introducing is the addition of bots. Yes, you read it right. In the next season, bots will be added to Fortnite. Fortunately enough, Epic Games has not gone crazy and they will only be present in non-competitive matches. They will be used as a way of offering players a fair match outside of competitive playlists, and their number will decrease as you gain more experience and your skill level increases.

It looks like Epic Games wants to create a smoother experience for the newcomers and at the same time, offer the players a less steep learning curve while maintaining a fair level of challenge. This could be great for those that have not tried Fortnite yet, and it will probably contribute to an even bigger number of players getting interested in the game.
