Dying Light 2 is just a few days away from hitting stores, but that's not stopping developer Techland from hyping the sequel in their episodes of Dying 2 Know. Stellar name!
In the fifth episode of Dying 2 Know, the developer detailed a bit more of the gameplay for the continuation of its post-apocalyptic saga. The episode was hosted by voice actor Jonah Scott, who lends his voice to protagonist Aiden Caldwell, alongside streamer Leah "Leahviathan" Alexandra. The nearly half-hour-long video shows plenty of what we can expect from the combat and parkour skills we'll use to explore the game's open world.
As seen in the footage, in Dying Light 2, players will once again venture out against hordes of hungry zombies, beating the crap out of some menacing survivors and traversing paths between structures destroyed after the fall of civilization as we know it. Taking place 22 years after the events of the first Dying Light, Aiden is on a quest to find out more about his sister. Meanwhile, he trained his parkour moves because the game includes twice as many building jumps as its predecessor.
The video also shows off some new equipment, including a paraglider to safely jump off buildings and travel long distances - which will wear out soon as you will use it constantly - and abilities such as a powerful WWE-styled flying kick to hit opponents right where their heart beats - that is if their heart still beats - and if that's not enough, ground pounds them to smithereens. You can also vault over enemies, hang on monkey bars, swing on ropes, and do twice as much athletics as the first Dying Light.
Episode 5 also showed a bit more about factions and how opting for aiding one will reward players differently. So pick your side, sharpen your metals, and do some squats, and your knees will thank you.
The development of Dying Light 2 is now complete, and the game has gone gold. It's scheduled for release on February 4, 2022, with versions for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch (via the cloud).
