The release of next-gen consoles a couple of months ago has also brought a lot of games that were previously available but that have been adapted to the new technology in one way or another. Plenty of developers have offered to the players free upgrades for their games so they would play them on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. As a result of this, there's been no shortage of games to play on both platforms but player's attention has also been drawn away from some brand new games that are coming in the following months. This is the case of Returnal, a third-person shooter that combines sci-fi and psychological horror elements to deliver a unique experience.
Returnal is under development by Housemarque, creators of Resogun. The game will launch exclusively on PlayStation 5 on March 19, 2021. It puts you in the shoes of Selene, an Astra space scout who is trapped in a resurrection loop while exploring a strange alien planet.
We can now take a look at Returnal gameplay in a new video that has just been published on the PlayStation blog. It focuses on combat and showcases some of the strange weapons that Selene will be able to find as she tries to escape from the hellish nightmare she is trapped in.
Creative director Harry Krueger also commented on what kind of gameplay we can expect to find in Returnal:
“With Returnal we’ve aimed to blend a unique mix of game styles. It combines our trademark explosive arcade action, responsive controls and bullet hell gameplay, and this time it’s all presented in third-person. There will be fast and frenetic combat and intense gunplay, and also some rich exploration and traversal as you explore the procedurally generated environments of Atropos. We’ve created Returnal to be a challenging and rewarding experience, with enough variety and depth to keep you always coming back for ‘one more go’.”
You should definitely keep an eye on Returnal if you are looking for a new game to play on your PlayStation 5.
