Control will have a multiplayer spin-off

The fans of Control have recently received very good news. Remedy Entertainment is working on a sequel to the popular action-adventure game which will be a multiplayer game based on the universe of the first game. The developer has signed an agreement with 505 Games to develop this spin-off, which is currently called Project Condor. The news has been made public via a publication on the official website of the developer, where Game Director Mikael Kasurinen talks about the future of the Control franchise.

"Control is first and foremost a world, a place for multitudes of stories, events, and characters. A place where unexpected, strange, and extraordinary things occur. We kicked it off with Jesse’s entry into the Oldest House, but there is more to this world. Oh, so much more."

The developer is set on creating a thrilling experience that will allow players to delve into this universe by using Control as an introduction to a much bigger world. Project Condor is a multiplayer spin-off that will release on PC; PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, and you can expect it to be powered by the Northlight graphics engine. The idea is that the game features cooperative online multiplayer for up to four people and PvE content. But this renewed focus on multiplayer is something new and the studio is still experimenting and trying to figure out the most suitable approach to it.

"We get that there is going to be skepticism about multiplayer. But I believe we can create shared experiences without compromising the unique DNA of who we are, or the stories we want to tell. Yes, we need to re-think our angles, our techniques, our mindset, but we see it as an exciting challenge: What would a Remedy multiplayer game look like?"

The rather lengthy post highlights a few statements that have caused great joy among the fans, especially the fact that there is another Control game that is going to have a bigger budget. Don't hold your breath waiting for the release of the Control sequel though. Remedy has confirmed that it will be quite a while before they even show the project.
