Deck13 and Umami Tiger Announce Ashes of Elrant DLC for Chained Echoes

Publisher Deck13 and developer Umami Tiger have announced Ashes of Elrant, a DLC for their JRPG Chained Echoes. The DLC is scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2025 and will be available on all platforms where the base game is currently playable.

Deck13 has released a trailer highlighting the additions in the DLC alongside an official statement. According to the publisher, Ashes of Elrant takes place before the final battle of Chained Echoes and involves all members of the Crimson Wings clan coming together to face a new threat far from Valandis, the main setting of the base game. In this expansion, the group travels to Elrant in response to a distress call from its apparent king, sparking a brand-new storyline.

The DLC will introduce 40 new monsters, including formidable bosses, new areas to explore, a variety of minigames such as mining, memory games, and fishing, a new playable character, and 15 fresh tracks composed by the talented Eddie Marianukroh. The trailer teases several upcoming features, with all characters making an appearance, including the optional ones, alongside the mysterious new addition, temporarily referred to as White Tiger, whose real name remains undisclosed in the preview.

Fans can catch glimpses of the new minigames, such as the memory game, mining, and fishing—a staple in JRPGs or games that pay homage to them. While the trailer doesn’t show it, screenshots reveal characters battling in their Sky Armors. One notable addition in the DLC appears to be an on-foot overworld map, a feature previously exclusive to the airship in the base game. The trailer also shows what seems to be a Talent Board that unlocks fresh gameplay features, such as the fishing minigame, the ability to communicate with animals, or the use of a brewery in the city.

On the story front, the DLC seems poised to expand on optional characters’ storylines. The preview shows a younger Raphael, hinting at more insights into the Inquisitor’s backstory and a revamped look for the witch Magnolia. Naturally, the main plot involving Elrant will also take center stage.

Chained Echoes launched in 2022, the brainchild of solo developer Matthias Linda, who sought to pay homage to 1990s JRPGs, much akin to Sea of Stars. The game is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and GOG, with backward compatibility on modern consoles.
