On the game's official website, Square Enix announced that Bravely Default II reached the major milestone of one million copies sold. It's an impressive number, especially considering that some claim that JRPG turn-based games are outdated and can't hold their own against contemporary genres.
Bravely Default II was first released on the Nintendo Switch on February 26 and sold more than 900,000 units. A few months later, on September 2, the game arrived on the PC via Steam and saw its figures boosted to reach this mark - which is a combined sales from both platforms. So far, Square Enix has not officially spoken of plans to bring the title to other consoles, such as the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The game's official Twitter account shared this image to commemorate the achievement:
Bravely Default II is the third entry of the Bravely series that debuted on Nintendo DS with Bravely Default I and then Bravely Second: End Layer. Square tried its best to confuse the players regarding the series' chronology. Bravely Second: End Layer is a direct sequel to Bravely Default I, while Bravely Default II is a stand-alone game.
The series reintroduced all the tropes that Final Fantasy got famous for. Turn-based RPGs, multiple jobs to mold your gameplay, a colorful and naive cast, and a plot involving crystals. Most fans claim that the nostalgic can reignite the classic Final Fantasy ember by playing the Bravely Default series.
Particularly, I am happy to see a JRPG reaching such an important milestone. With games such as Dragon Quest XI, Persona 5, and Yakuza Like a Dragon, turn-based RPGs show that they are as strong as ever. Although the cinematography is somewhat hampered by the gameplay, not all need to shift the gameplay to become action-games with Hollywood scenes to achieve success.
If, like me, you are the fool for turn-based RPGs, chibi-characters, and a plot that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, check out the CD Keys deals for Bravely Default II and become the Hero of Light you were destined to be.
