Astro Bot is the brand new winner of the GOTY award and this has not sat very well among the members of a certain community. The creators and fans of Black Myth Wukong have expressed their disappointment and frustration because of the final result, despite the title from Game Science still managed to secure several other awards for itself during The Game Awards 2024. This is something we rarely see, especially coming from representatives of companies whose games didn't win but this year is slightly different on this matter.
Feng Ji, CEO of Game Science has expressed his frustration with the result of the final vote for the GOTY. It turns out that he was very confident about Black Myth: Wukong winning it, to the point that he had prepared a speech for that specific moment two years ago.
“The four nominations (Best Action Game, Best Art Direction, Best Game Direction, and Game of the Year) were a first for a Chinese game. Yet, I must admit, there’s a sense of loss and regret. More than anything, though, there’s a letting go of illusions."
"The games nominated this year were all exceptional, but honestly, I still can’t figure out what the criteria were for Game of the Year. I feel like I came all the way here for nothing!”
Leaving aside the fact that Black Myth: Wukong achieved a notable milestone with a significant number of copies sold, the game still was the one with the lowest Metacritic score among the nominees to the GOTY. Questioning the selection criteria for the GOTY award doesn't seem to be very elegant, especially when the same event has awarded your game in other categories. Of course, there is no doubt that Black Myth: Wukong is an exceptional game that deserves to be among the best of 2024, but it didn't win the GOTY and the best course of action would be to focus on the positive achievements and move on.
If Astro Bot is not your cup of tea and you are looking for a visually stunning action game, we highly recommend that you use our comparator to purchase a cheap Black Myth: Wukong digital code. It may not be the GOTY 2024 but it's still an awesome title worthy of a spot in any video game library.
