Anthem might be completely overhauled

We thought that BioWare had thrown in the towel with Anthem, but it seems that the franchise may be infused with renewed life sometime in the future. According to a report, the developers have plans to overhaul the game.

As you probably know, Anthem is pretty much dead right now. Even though the design of the game isn't especially bad and it attracted quite a lot of attention before launch, Anthem has not managed to keep a healthy player base. You could blame this situation to a rocky launch full of technical problems, especially on consoles, but the problem really comes from the lack of endgame content. The story is nice, but once you are done with it, there is literally nothing in the game. Repeating a certain dungeon until you are lucky enough to get the legendary piece of gear that you want is not enough to keep people playing. The post-launch schedule planned for Anthem was delayed due to the necessity of polishing the game, so players were stuck for too long with nothing to do. As a result, most of the people that had some faith in the game eventually ended moving on and abandoning it. Right now, it's not at a state where it's able to compete with Destiny 2 or any other shooters in the genre.

Therefore, this rumor about Anthem being reworked into a 2.0 version is quite surprising. BioWare seems to be working on Dragon Age 4, and the amount of work that needs to be done with Anthem seems to be pretty huge if we consider that some core areas of the game may have to be changed, including the mission and loot systems.

If BioWare is working on bringing Anthem back to life, it would be great news for the people who believe that it's a pity that a game with such a huge potential is forgotten in some dark corner of players' videogames libraries. We will have to wait to discover if Anthem is being overhauled for real and if it's worth playing it again.
