In a discussion with Tony Yu, the general manager of ASUS China on Bilibili (with a YouTube version available below), Lisa Su, the CEO of AMD, talked about the successful launch of their Radeon RX 9070 XT. During this conversation, Lisa Su confirmed that the launch of the RX 9070 XT has become the most successful in Radeon’s history. In its first week, sales significantly exceeded those of previous GPU launches, with AMD achieving sales figures ten times higher.
This interview follows remarks from AMD VP David McAfee regarding the RX 9070 XT launch, who characterized the demand for this GPU as “unprecedented” for the company. Such comments, along with sales dramatically outpacing earlier card launches, imply that AMD was not entirely ready for the RX 9070 XT’s popularity on release day.
Lisa Su indicated that AMD is ramping up its GPU production to satisfy demand, enabling more gamers to obtain the latest graphics cards from AMD. Additionally, during the interview, Lisa Su touched on other AMD products such as Strix Halo, the company’s premium APU, X3D CPUs, and Ryzen AI offerings.
Although AMD focused significantly on their Radeon RX 9070 XT, they did not mention the lower-end RX 9070 (non-XT), which is understandable considering AMD’s greater supply of the RX 9070 XT at launch; it is obviously the product AMD is prioritizing.
When addressing the future of AMD’s CPUs and GPUs, Lisa Su mentioned that they will persist in optimizing their technology across silicon, packaging, system, and software levels. As silicon scaling becomes increasingly challenging, chipmakers will need to exert more effort to enhance PC performance. Expect these areas to remain central to AMD’s strategy moving forward.
