Developer Hopoo Games has made quite a good job with Risk of Rain 2 and its predecessor. As a result of that, the indie studio is expanding and doubling the number of developers working in it. This will have quite a positive impact on Risk of Rain 2 as the extra people will make it possible to dish out more content for the game and faster. You can see that in the plans of the studio for 2021 which have recently been revealed on a post in Steam.
First of all, Risk of Rain 2 will receive a free anniversary update on March 2021 that will add quality-of-life improvements along with some of the content that was left out of the game for the release. That includes a new survivor, a new boss, new skills, and more. The update also will also bring internal changes to support modders. But the big addition will arrive much later, near the end of 2021, with the release of the first paid expansion for Risk of Rain 2. It does not have a name yet but the developers want to include quite a sizeable amount of content in it, including more characters to play, new enemies, items, stages, random events, a new game mode, and a lot of other novelties. It will not be a small DLC, but a full expansion that will add new content to almost every aspect of the game.
Although Risk of Rain 2 is not exactly short on content right now as its replayability is quite high already thanks to the randomization of every game, receiving more content will be very welcomed by the fans because it will mean that the possibilities in the game grow exponentially. The addition of more items to collect and more skills will lead to new powerful combinations that the players will have to explore. The possibilities grow even bigger if we take cooperative multiplayer into account.
