Fable: Whats the future of the series?

Fable: Whats the future of the series?

We told you about it in a previous article. Some rumors about a potential reboot of the Fable series have been circulating for a while. We knew that these were not just rumors when the existence of a new Fable game was confirmed during the Xbox Showcase event on July 23.

Unveiled at the very end of the live stream, a short video formalized the development of the game, and that's about it. The game is known as Fable, and although we do not know if this name is final, that's all that has been revealed about it so far. There is no release date in sight either, so we imagine that the development of the game is far from over.

Since this revelation, other rumors have started appearing, but the one that we are talking about today is the one that says that the next Fable could be an MMO, which has the fans of the series somewhat worried. LionHead Studios, the creator of the series, is no more, and there is a new team in charge of developing the new game, Playground Games. The studio is known for having developed the Forza Horizon series, which has absolutely nothing to do with role-playing games. Interviewed by The Guardian, Matt Booty, director of Xbox Games Studios, reassured players on this point:

“I just look at what Playground has done with the Horizon series – that attention to detail, the ability to represent these naturalistic landscapes. They also have a real passion for the IP and a unique point of view on what’s core to Fable. Everything I’ve seen as the game progresses tells me this is going to be a very high-quality release.”

In addition, we know that Playground Games has recruited developers with experience with RPGs. Regarding the rumors that the next Fable will be an MMO, here is what Booty states:

“With any kind of franchise like that, where you’ve had existing versions, there’s always that balance between what you’re going to bring forward, what still stands up, and what you want to add that’s new. It’s like the challenge of making a new Star Wars movie – there’s stuff that everyone wants you to bring along, but then you’ve got a responsibility to take that to new places and I trust Playground has a good vision for that.”

Therefore, there are no definitive answers on this matter, even if other rumors say that the possibility of Fable transforming into an MMO is quite low. In any case, this would be quite a risky bet that may not appeal to everyone. We will have to wait a little longer to get answers to some questions about this new game. While waiting you can still have fun with the previous Fable games in the series.
