After almost 15 long years of waiting, Beyond Good and Evil 2 was finally announced at E3 2017. The sequel to the adventure game born from the imagination of the creator of Rayman turned out to be a prequel. Although the original Beyond Good and Evil received a warm welcome with great reviews and even some awards, the game was a commercial failure, mainly due to the abundance of other much-anticipated games that came out at the same time.
There's been almost no news about Beyond Good and Evil 2 in the last months, but a rather unexpected one has just been revealed: a Beyond Good and Evil film would be released "soon". The announcement was made by Netflix via Twitter because the adaptation of the game will be available on the famous platform. This tweet simply reveals that the film is directed by Rob Letterman, who notably worked on Detective Pikachu and Gang of Sharks. We will also find Jade and Pey'J in the film.
We can learn a little more in the columns of the Hollywood Reporter, in particular that "soon" does not really mean soon. Indeed it seems that the project is in its early stages and that the team is currently recruiting screenwriters. We also discover that the Beyond Good and Evil film will be a mix of live-action and animation.
And that's all for now. Obviously, fans are now asking themselves a lot of questions, starting with the story of the film. Will it be an adaptation of the first Beyond Good and Evil or feature a whole different story? Will we see in this film the scenario that seemed to be initially planned for Beyond Good and Evil 2 in the trailer released in 2008? It's a mystery. We'll have to be patient to find out more, just like in the case of the game, but who knows, the next Ubisoft Forward could provide us with some answers.
